Hi,
I am from Jay Maine, and today I am thinking of you poor folks up there
due to the huge snow storm but ya know what?? I'd move back tomorrow
just to play in the snow with my grandchildren. I miss everything
especially my family.

YOU KNOW YOU ARE FROM MAINE IF:
> 1. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor
on the
> highway.
> 2. "Vacation" means going to Moosehead for the weekend.
> 3. You measure distance in hours.
> 4. You know several people who have hit moose more than once.
> 5. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the
same day.
> 6. You use a down comforter in the summer.
> 7. Your grandparents drive at 65 mph through 13 feet of snow during
a
raging
> blizzard, without flinching.
> 8. You see people wearing hunting clothes at social events.
> 9. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave
them
both
> unlocked.
> 10. You think of the major food groups as moose meat, beer, fish,
and
> berries.
> 11. You carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to
use
them.
>
> 12. There are 4 empty cars running in the parking lot at the
convenience
> store at any given time.
> 13. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
> 14. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled
with
> snow.
> 15. You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and flannel pajamas.
> 16. You know all 4 seasons: almost wintah, wintah, still wintah and
> construction.
> 17. You actually understand these jokes and forward them to all
your
friends
> from Maine.

Happy New Year to all! Sitting
here in flatland country wishing I could drop in on my kids and
grandkids at home in Central Maine. Just purchased a 1925 map of
Vassalboro, Maine on ebay :-) A bit of home for a native. Still
planning on a Patriot's Day Maine-iacs gathering.....anyone in the
surrounding area welcome to join us. E-mail me if you want updates.
Just checked my calendar from Maine and it doesn't have Patriot's
Day on it....for shame! Going home in March to surprise my daughter
on her 30th. Can't wait to see them all! Take care. I love this
site! And whoopie pies, Bolley's hot dogs, Big Gs, Humpty Dumpty
Barbecue chips, real clams (belly included)...
mmmmm...getting hungry now :-)

Made it to Maine for Christmas this year.... spent a
wonderful day after Christmas romping in the foot of snow that had just
fallen, watching my idiot dogs chase the snowmobiles across Highland
Lake in Windham. Damn it was good to get the hell out of
Sacramento and spend a REAL New England Christmas with my family....
do you know they spray paint snow on their trees out here??
Friggin' weirdos.

Happy New Year to all Exiles. Hope 2003 is a year
full of happiness, good health and peace of mind.
Does anyone one know when the Centennial celebration is scheduled for
the town of Wilton this summer? Sure would like to attend the
celebration but need to know when it is going to occur.

It's been a very long time
since I left a message but I want to say Happy New Year to everyone
who loves Maine. I hope we all get to go home for a visit at
least once this year. Has anyone seen the Nubble lit up for
Christmas? The pictures are so beautiful.
God Bless!

Hi, Patrick Soule. I
have a confession to make about Moxie. There are two states
that make it and sell it, and my brother, Richard Burnham told me
that they are sold in the same stores, such as Shaws at Pine Tree
Mall. I wasn't aware of this. One is made in Maine, of
course, and the other is in Georgia. They are different, so
make sure you get the one made in Maine. Evidently the ones I have
getting are made in Georgia, and there is a DIFFERENCE. So
rest assured, the MAINE one is OK. Swig to your heart's
content.

Hello fellow Maniacs. I was born and raised in
Brunswick untill i decided to join the Army after graduation. I've
been in the Army now for 15 years and cant wait till I can make Maine
home again. As you can probably imagine, I have been all over the
world and back again. Its nice to see different parts of the world
but not for as long as I have. It does make one appreciate Maine a
whole lot more.
I miss Fat Boys, Main St., The Old High School,
Winter sports, Ice fishing on the Anderscoggin running 20 lines drinking
beer and conversing with friends, snow days, visiting Aunt Fay and Uncle
Jack at Spinnys at Popham Beach, the Galley in Bath, and much much more,
but most of all the people in Maine.
To Alan Brown and Cynthia Roderick (Deluca),
my wife is from the Presque Isle area. Her maiden name is Tammy
Woods. She lived there most of her life till I met her while on
leave, eventually married her and put her in exile with me. Its
hard to be in exile alone, so I got me a hostage.
It was nice to find this nice. thank you for
your time

Okay Harry--I'm heading home on January 23rd and I will
take the MOXIE taste test for myself and I'll report back the first of
February when I return to Virginia. I think a big part of the
problems with many drinks today are cans and plastic bottles. I
still remember the first MOXIE I had at the corner store, a hot summer
day and reaching into the ice chest, almost to the bottom! So cold
and ooh so good! HAPPY NEW YEARS' to all my fellow MIEs!

Now I've been away far too long (going on 9 years) and am counting down
the last three until I can return. You don't know what you've got
until it's gone...

Just mention the name Amato to
any Maniac, and you can hear hunger pangs from your stomach.
Giovanni Amato started it all in 1902, by adding cheese, salami and
vegetables, with oil, salt and green pepper, meat, tomatoes , spicy
pickles, black olives, ohions..Actually Domenic Reali owns
the Portland Amato Sandwich Shop chain.
Unlike Subway, with 17,400 restaurants in 75
countries, Amato has only 14, all in Maine.
Mr. Amato, an immigrant, started with a
pushcart after he opened a bakery in 1902. About 1903 was when the
Italian started, but no proof it actually started on a certain date.
Italians came to the U.S. to pave stones on
streets, longshoremen, and work on expanding the railroads.
In New York, they are called heroes or subs;
New Jersey they are hoagies. Most have lettuce but not considered
an Italian sandwich.
Amatos has a shop on India St, known as Little
Italy. They also have locations at Broadway in South Portland,
U.S. Rte #1 in Scarborough, St, John in Portland, Roosevelt Trails in
Windham, Washington Ave. in Portland, and Main St. in Gorham. Now,
go get an Amato.

It is true, Moxie is horrible tasting, probably because
it is not made in Maine anymore, but somewhere in Georgia. My
brother Richard of Westbrook agrees, he won't buy it anymore. When
my wife was alive, she'd kid me by saying, "It smells like
mouthwash". Does anybody else agree it just isn't the same?

This is the first time in many years that we have not
been able to return to Maine for Christmas. Thunderstorms and tornado
watches all day today......Going home for good in about 4 1/2 months.
Happy Holidays to one and all......
