WOW!!!! I haven't been on in a while and am really upset that
there are people upset with St.Clair. I also enjoy reading
everything he writes. It puts me right into that picture.
Like they are saying...if you don't like it, go over it!!!!!

I AM a female, living in the south, and the descriptions
are SO, SO true. I am a very straight forward spoken person
and I amaze everyone here when I speak my mind up front.
But, I am told that is not the way they are brought up. When
I give my opinion, they know, (along with my "Yankee"accent
that I am NOT southern born.

Mr. St. Clair, I'm sorry you feel that way about Dale
Earnhardt. He was an aggressive driver but he also made
racing what it is today. He helped and cared about a lot of
people on and off the race track. As a person, there needs
to be more people like him in this world. He was very close
to his family. And if you watched the last race he was in,
he was protecting his son from the other drivers. Yes,he
died to early in life but he died doing what he loved to do.
He left his mark on earth, and it was a good one, as you
can very well see. And that, Mr ST Clair is why there was
so much written and said about Dale Earnhardt.

I've spent countless nights staring at a screen in my Mainers In
Exile chatroom, but alas, I'm usually the only one there.
It's ironic that my only frequent visitor is living in Maine
and exiled from North Carolina- the exact opposite of my
situation. I've sent the instructions on how to get to the
room to at least fifty of you at your own request, but I've
never had more than three (counting myself) in there at one
time. I'm disheartened and a little sorry I wasted all the
time it took to construct a place for us to chat. Don't get
me wrong- I'm NOT whining, and I've had some great chats
with a few of you- even the one who claimed (in this
forum)that it was a waste of time. If any of you are TRULY
interested in showing up there, email me and I'll forward
the instructions- again. If the instructions are confusing,
I'll revise them.
On to other matters......
Mr. Jones, normally I wouldn't dignify your posting with a
response because my Mother always told me- "If you don't
have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
BUT-Get a life! Pretend that this is a TV set and change the
channel.......

I heartily agree, Mr. St. Clair does not need to harrased. I
enjoy his ramblings, being poetically inclined myself.
I enjoy his style of writing, his descriptions, and the
memories that he causes this weary, homesick mind to recall.

Keep it up Wayne, we love and enjoy your company!
As for southern women, from my experiance, and a fellow
Mainers in South Carolina (shehas had a lot of trouble with
them) the south can keep them!
So back off chummy!

I agree with Terry Jones, I have been here in Texas since 78 and
have found the women are no different than Maine. If you
dont like the present company, as the say down here take I35
North and go. Maybe Wayne should take I95 or whatever and
go.

Terry Jones, you know one of the best things about living in a
free country? The ability to choose what to read, and what
to skip. I enjoy Wayne's prose; sometimes he makes me feel
so homesick I could cry. That's not necessarily a bad thing,
either. I would suggest that the next time you see his name
at the top of a letter, just blithely skip right over it.
Problem solved!!! Now, for the best news I've had in a long
time. The Navy commissary at NAS JAX now carries marshmallow
fluff. Great day in the mornin'!!! Everyone take
care........

A gentle reminder to all. Remember the aim of this site, to
share thoughts on the Great State of Maine, from MIEs to
non-Mainers who love the State. We even tolerate the
occassional desenter, but, if you want to take a personal
jab at one another, use the private email addresses that
most provide. PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS INTO A "JERRY
SPRINGER" SITE.

I remember camping one summer at one of the camp grounds in
Naples, Maine. I met a lovly young lady that I secretly fell
in love with. We had a great time, and tried to keep in
touch through the summer and fall of that year. I think it
was 1974 or 75, and I think her name was Terri Rand.
Anyway, her family moved out of state and I never heard from
her again. She lived in South Portland. Does anybody know
this lady? Please have her email me.

Well, fellow MIE's, my time away is officially over. I have
spent the last 10 years trying to be "welcomed into
Paradise" with little success. I am quite sure that my
homesickness has been a seed to undermine my future in
California. There are countless beautiful places here, as
in Maine, but Maine is HOME. The folks and family mostly
still live there. Two weeks visiting every other year isn't
enough. Please wish me luck!

I can't wait for that first fried clam plate at the
Chick-a-dee!

Anyone out there from Livermore Falls?

TERRY JONES..Leave St.Clair alone. Yours is the first letter
against the man that I am aware of. He is not far from the
truth on "southern" women. A lot of them are sweetness and
light to your face, but be aware of the knife they hold
behind their back. I enjoy Mr. St.Clair's prose and his
"ramblings". If I didn't, I wouldn't read it. That is my
opinion. I could be wrong, I have been before.
PEACE.

I miss Maine greatly. I am originally from MA, but I graduated
from UMaine Orono. I spent five years living in Maine and
before that I had spent quite a few Summers in Naples Maine.
I lived in Orono, Old Town, and Sanford. I had worked in the
Old Town City Managers Office. I visit Maine when ever I get
a chance. One day I hope to have a summer place in Maine. I
miss the relaxed lifestyle and the genuine people. I had a
great time at the University and working in Old Town. I
would like to visit Don's North End Tavern sometime again
soon. I spent a ton of time there during my last year living
in Maine. I studied for final at the bar. I miss Don's and
the people there. I just miss small town life in Maine.

I for one am really tired of listening to this Mr St.Clair, he
is boring and his babbling just seems to go on forever. Why
not just get to the point and stop trying to impress the
readers. Your views on Southern women are unjust and not
called for. If you miss this state of Maine that much, than
go home!!!!!!.....I grew up in Maine, left and saw the world
for a number of years....Please Mr. St Clair, grow up.

Last week we got some snow...it was gone the next day. sigh. It
is not that I am such a fan of snow & the cold (they are
both four letter words ya know)but that winter down here is
so relentlessly BORING!!! It's like one long brown season.
At least winter in Maine is a challenge. Of course by now
its charms have long since faded & snow just another chore
but still. A southern winter is so tedious...too cold for
shorts is about all.

Do those who remain in Maine & new england in general have
any idea what a special place it is of do we have to go away
to understand? I hope not. I remember my last day in Maine I
wondered around all but crying, tears welling up in my eyes
as I visited one last time all my favorite haunts saying
goodbye. As I bicycled across New hampster, southern Vermont
& far western mass. I was struck once more by the stunning,
subtle beauty of the northlands.Ya know once I reached New
York state I could just look around & tell I was outside new
england. How I have no idea but the feel of the land was
different. I have written in a poem that for me "new england
is like warm light shining through frost covered panes. An
ancient room filled with the bric brac of a life long well
lived, an attic garrett maybe, confined but comfortable.
Give me the hidden heart of new england anyday ,cool on the
outside but warm as a glowing wood stove."

Then there is the matter of yankee lasses. Keep em hidden
men, don't let the outside world know what charming &
enthunstic lovers they are.I must say in all honesty that
new england girls are wonderful. Of course all women are
but...for warmth on a cold winters night, they are far
better & much more fun than a woodstove & are true
companions. Southern belle's are not like that. Southern
women are buysexual...the more you buy for them the more
sexual they become. SIGH!!!
At any rate once more my babbling goes on at length...I
am consistantly surprised you guys put up with my
meanderings. Febuary is over spring is on its way.

I LOVE Maine!!! I went to college with someone who was from
Maine. Since then we have remained good friends. I used to
go to Maine every year to visit her once we left college.
She is now married and lives in North Carolina. I still go
and visit her in North Carolina but it is nothing like
Maine. I miss going up there every year. Next month I will
be making my first visit in about 3 years and I can't
wait!!! I thought about moving down there but the
unemployment rate makes me a little nervous. I can't drive
either so that is another worry. The funniest part of the
whole thing is that I hate winter but for some reason it is
just different up there. I grew up in Manhattan and never
thought I would want to move to anyplace else but if I were
going to move anywhere it would definatly be Maine!!!!

I found a great job here in Maine and just want everyone to know
that you CAN find a great job if you start your job search
in advance and make use of the Internet. I saw great
examples listed below. I would also take a cut in pay in
exchange for Maine any day!
