Matthew J. Robinson (mrobinson@email.mc.ti.com) -- Attleboro, MA

I was born in Mass but like many I'm a "Mainah at Haht". My
father and brother have both made the right move and gone
Down East. If the work was there, So I would be... I miss
the smell of the ocean and falling asleep to the sound of
the crashing waves. Maybe someday........Uyuh!

We do miss the Ocean and plentiful pine trees, however, the
Rocky Mountains and great weather make Colorado an appealing
alternative.

At least Charleston has no black flies and summer people.

T. E. -- Goshen, IN
11/17/96 -- 15:05:18
Briefly, I was born in Waterville, Maine but only stayed there
3 days 'til Mom and Dad decided to bring me home to the
nicest town in the state, Freedom. I graduated from Mt.
View HS in 1967 and entered the Army a month later. After
21 years of that, I moved to Goshen, IN to go to college. I
had NO intention of remaining here, but here I am. My wife
is as much a Hoosier as I am a Mainer. I miss the memories
of growing up in a small town where everyone would help
their neighbor. I would give anything to move back, but the
reality of work and my kids all living here makes that
pretty much impossible. Latah, T. E.

I was born in Portland and lived in Scarborough. I have quit
Maine many times. This last time I came down to CT for a 3
month job in October 1979. I do get back often.

I am NOT a mainer in exile. I have it MUCH WORSE. I actually
married a wonderful woman who grew up in maine and has been
exiled to the frozen plains. All i EVER hear about is salt
water, mud flats and Lobsta. After visiting maine, i sort of
agree. It is an incredible place. Much cooler than fargo.
SO, we are moving back. Cundy's Harbor is the place
Hopefully, she will keep me once we get back!!

Rebecca Henning (rehennin@du.edu) -- Denver, Colorado
11/1/96 -- 14:33:14
Born in Lewiston, raised in Turner, plus lots of time with
grandparents in Bowdoinham and Clinton. Mountains are nice,
but don't let anyone fool you - Denver proper is practically
on the prairie - I miss forests, ocean, and humidity! Will
get back as soon as I can.

I am from Wiscasset and attending Saint Michaels College.
Maybe you read the message twin sister left from Cornell.
Like Sarah I miss Maine a lot. Vermont is nice, but Lake
Champlain doesn't hold a candle to the ocean.

Sarah Scally (shs12@cornell.edu) -- Ithaca, NY

I am from Wiscasset but am going to school at Cornell. I lived

can't wait to go home.

Great idea for a web page. I read your ad in ECHOES magazine.
I was born in Presque Isle while my dad was in the Navy.
My mom is from Mapleton and my dad is from New Sweden. I
remember going to Maine on vacation every summer when I was
a kid. We would always go out for lobster at least once. I
don't get there very often anymore, but I enjoy my visits to
Maine.

Jeanne Peine (mejeanne@jetson.uh.edu) -- Houston, Texas
10/15/96 -- 16:40:36
I was born and raised in South Portland and came to Houston for
a job. Buying a Christmas tree while wearing shorts was a
new one for me. I sorely miss chocolate powdered
doughnuts, Italian sandwiches, and Fall foliage. I also
miss Maine beaches; although I am in close proximity to the
Gulf of Mexico, the beaches here can't hold a candle to the
Maine coast with its sharp, salty air.

It was nice visiting your location while we were there on
vacation last week. Thanks for having us over for a quick
chat and picking up some fine t-shirts and souvenours. Our
trip to Portland was uneventful except for all the great
looking light houses there. Maybe see you again sometime
soon!

Mark Cotter (cottermark@worldnet.att.net) -- Lewisville, North Carolina
10/9/96 -- 22:15:47
Born in Bangor, and lived in Orrington for 14 years before
moving to N.C. with parents in '81. They left me here when
they moved back in '89. Not their fault though because I
married a southern girl who at first did not want anything
to do with the state of ME. But by traveling to ME over the
last 8 years for vacations, holidays, and other occassions,
she wants to become a Mainer. We are trying desperately to
pay off our debt and to find jobs in the Bangor area. The
things I miss are the small town way of life (laid back),
the friendly people, and my family.

Drew Logan (logandr@palmer.usap.nsf.gov) -- Palmer Station, Antarctica
10/6/96 -- 9:20:44
Born and grew up in Brunswick. Graduated from UMO in 1983.
I'm currently living/working at Palmer Station on the
Antarctic Penninsula. The coastline here is rocky and the
water is almost as cold as Reed State Park. No trees here
and the penguins remind me that I'm not on Bailey Island.
It'll be nice to get back in the Spring.

HI THERE. I was born, bred and raised in Boston but I became a

took me 13 yeahs to get back he-ah and I couldn't be
happy-ah. This is true-ly the way life should be. :-) Now
if I could only meet a mate.

Al and Joan Charron (jcharron@prolog.net) -- Lewisburg, Pa.
9/22/96 -- 22:45:39
Hello Fellow Mainers! Both of us grew up in Lewiston, but later
made our home in York for nearly twenty years. Have lived
in Boston, NH and North Carolina along the way to
Pennsylvania. Extensive business travel has taken me from
coast to coast, but I have not found a place I love better
than Maine. We miss the salt air, and all the ocean has to
offer, including the lobster and clams. We don't foresee
going back except to vacation unless Al leaves the US
Public Health Service. Unfortunately, there are no
positions available in Maine. Hearing from other Mainers
in Exile may help to ease the homesickness I feel so
strongly.

Wicked COOL SITE..! Keep it up..! Born in Kittery, joined the
Air Force and got stuck in South Dakota. I miss the salt
air, pine trees, and the food. If you ever want to go to a
flat and boring spot, this is it. Heard about your site
from a Colonel I worked for, Dave Hall.

Joe & Sharon Taylor (105075.3430@compuserve.com) -- Cary, North Carolina
9/16/96 -- 20:24:13
Home for us was Caribou. We left Christmas of 1992 because of
the Loring AFB closing. We miss: the wild winters, the
wonderful people, the wide wilderness. Officially we are
Cape Codders, but employment/jobs brought us to NC. This
is a beautiful state, but our goal is to be back in Maine
by 9/01/97!!!

Hooray, your message board finally works. Born in Lewiston,
graduated from Northeastern and went to NY to get a job.
Moving to Boston next week -- going in the right direction!
I miss the ocean, hiking in Baxter, and REAL fried clams.
But mostly I miss the people, family and friends. My Mom
sent me one of your tee shirts for Christmas. I wore it and
met two more exiles. Hope it works in Boston. Will check
back in with new email address.

Della Heard (Benner) (gade@otn.net) -- Beale AFB, CA.
9/1/96 -- 02:46:32
I was born in Damariscotta, went to high school in Brewer,
graduated in 1979. We left because my husband is in the
Air Force and they closed Pease AFB while we were living in
Kittery Point. I miss the Maine coast the most. It's only
about 3 hours drive to the Pacific but it is nothing like
the Maine coast. We will return in about two years when my
husband retires from the Air Force. Don't know where we'll
live yet but wherever we find jobs will determine that.
Would like to communicate with other exiles!
