Find me another state that has this kind of loyalty! I was
raised next door in New Hampsha, but escaped to Maine for
college and a few years thereafter. I ended up leaving
because of the job situation and have been slolwly drifting
southward. But if my Maine friends have anything to do with
it, I'll be back someday!(Hopefully within the next couple
of years.)
Keep up the good work!

Hi & happy holidays to all of you out there from here in CT. I
just recently snuck up to Wells for one last weekend of R&R
before the holidays. Working in retail messes up ones time
to spend a chance to get to ME. after Turkey day. I had
Maine come to me today. My aunt and uncle are visiting on
their way to FL. for the winter. I would stay in ME. all
year long. Just give me a place by the sea with a lighthouse
nearby and I'm in heaven. Oh the dream of a 6 digit miracle
remain in my heart. Before I forget, my thanks to all the
Mainers I met and talked to on my 4 trips north this year. I
have yet to see a rude Mainer. Here in CT., it never
happens. This is why I long to go north. You people are the
best.
Seasons Greetings---Mike E

Well folks,
You have seen me post many messages on here while I was
living in Ohio, and you have seen me write about a little
country store that my husband & I were going to purchase,
well the "dream" has happened!!!! I am now no longer living
in exile, but am home sweet home in Aroostook County with
some might fine people. Funny how one can grow up and not
know anything about surrounding towns. If anyone is up my
way in Bridgewater please stop and introduce yourself. The
Market that we purchased is in the middle of town (don't
blink), called K&N Market. I am here practically
alllllllllllll day, before the rooster crows and after the
sun goes down. My husband is missing all this fun I am
having as he has 3 more years to give to Uncle Sam in Ohio.
Today it's snowing and raining out, had to use the four
wheel drive finally this morning. Hope you all have a
wonderful Holiday, whereever you may be outside of Maine.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL EXILES!!
Even though I am in Exile, I still have many things to be
thankful about. I have the many years of memories of living
in Maine, where I learned to appreciate the IMPORTANT things
of life. I learned that hard work and steadfast
determination will always make us proud of the
accomplishments we have had in our lives. Do any of you
realize that people from Maine have a reputation all over
the world for being loyal and hard working?

I am thankful for my Maine roots, my Maine ways of life.
Even though my career keeps me in Exile, I know that I can
always go back home to Maine, anytime I want to go.

As a gal from Maine livng in Exile in California, I was
wondering if you ladies from Maine know about Longaberger
baskets--or hope that you do. I understand that they are
VERY popular back home. I went to a Longaberger "Bee" in
San Jose this weekend where their products were on display
(not for purchase) -- very nice.
What do you ladies think of this company/products? I have
never been invited to a party -- am just starting out
learning about these baskets. Any tips? I don't want to
invite my friends to a party and have them feel obligated to
purchase a basket -- and go into shock over the price! Just
wondering what you thought. Many thanks.

plan to escape new york city in a few years and hopefully
return to maine where you can actually see stars and not
just pretend that you know there's some up there
somewhere. (i've been in exile off and on for 8 years)
i'm truly proud to be from maine. as a friend of mine from

off in this city...
be well, all you maniacs out there! and we truly are

We left Maine 20 years ago when I came on active duty in the
Army; have lived all over the world ever since. I graduated
from Cape Eliz HS in 74, my wife went to Portland HS (76).
I then did SMVTI and she did UMPG. Have tons of family back
home in the Portland area. Have been getting back 4-6
times a year, always seeking out an Amato's Italian Sandwich
and dragging home many bags of Humty Dumpty chips! My
oldest is going to college in VA but my next one will be
going to Orono or Maine Maritime in Sept 99. Should be
retiring back to Maine in late 2000. This is a great site,
my wife and I have a blast reading all the wicked good
messages. We joined a Maine Society in Washington, DC -
keeping touch with our roots.

killed 'em, all 22 of 'em. But I got lucky a few weeks

It's that time of year again when my parents friends from

to go on over to the folks house to see them all...it's not
everyday you hear somebody talking NORMAL. lol I think
someone needs to come out with one of those CD ROM lessons
on, "how to keep that Maine accent". Heck, I'd buy it for

Out here in the Heartland we often reminisce and think back on
the years ('77-'83) we lived in Augusta and spent our
summers on Three Mile Pond, in the China Lakes area. Our
first experience in Maine dates back to 1970 when, enroute
to Nova Scotia for a camping holiday, we stopped off briefly
at Acadia Nat'l Park and stayed three weeks. Have returned
there MANY times but haven't yet seen Nova Scotia! While
living in Connecticut, we returned many summers to the Maine
coast, usually to Castine - one of the quiet, as yet
unspoiled by too many visitors - coastal towns. We look
forward to retiring there in a few years. In these parts,
the question is always asked: "but what about the winters?"
I'm tempted to respond: "No worse than St. Louis summers".
Our son returned to Maine for two years of high school while
the rest of the family remained "south" in Connecticut. He's
now back in Maine, lucky guy, teaching at the same school he
attended, and making good use of our ancient camp on 3 Mile
Pond. We have photos of Maine in evidence all around our
midwest home and look forward each month to the current
issue of "Downeast", as well as the weekly Castine
"Patriot".

Hi! When I had to fill out what I missed most about Maine, I
came up with so many things, there just wasn't enough room
to write them all down.
I was born in Westbrook, left there in 1958.
Have lived overseas and on the West Coast most of the
years..We were a Military Family, so moved quite often. Now
back in NC. Right outside of Ft. Bragg, home of the
Airborne.
Now retire from the Army, working a second career.
I go back to Maine every two or three years. Have to fill up
on Meatball sandwiches, Amato's Italian Sandwiches, Humpty
Dumpty potato chips, OOB pier french fries , and so much
more. I make my own whoopie pies, so they aren't on my list
of priorities!
The only state I have lived in that is as beautiful as Maine
is Washington State. Maine has its own beauty that is
difficult to describe, the coastline, the gorgeous colors in
the Fall, and on and on.
Looking forward to my next visit there. "There's no place
like home"

Hey everyone.... I am terribly terribly homesick. I've moved
out here to California after graduating from Nursing school
at UMO. I did it just for the job. Everyday I think about
Portland, and western maine, and my buddies sitting in front
of the fire place back home drinking beer and Moxie.
I worked down at Casco Bay Lines for 3 years, and now the
ocean is in my heart forever. I miss sitting out at spring
point at night watching the ships come in, I miss kicking
around the Old Port at night. I miss the smell of woodsmoke
in the fall, and the smell of wet leaves and grass.

People from Maine never really leave do they? I cannot
wait to get home for Christmas. California is only a
temporary thing, Maine is forever.

To Suzanne from San Diego: I never thought I'd see someone from
Machias on this site. Hope you had a good trip back. Would
love to hear about your connection to my home town. Feel
free to drop me a line.
