Things must be slow out there. Last posting is Oct. 9th.!! But
I'm like Carl. I can't find anyone from the Scarborough
area that graduated in 1954. When I left in 1950, there
were at least 50 people in the 12th grade. Wonder what
happened to all of them? Love this site, and check it every
few days, just in case someone from the 50's is alive and
well.

I discovered this site just today and shared a story about some
Mainers who stopped by because they saw our Maine flag
outside. Then I went into past messages and couldn't stop
reading. What wonderful memories I have of Maine. I grew up
in Eliot and Wiscasset. My first "real" job was at the
Ledges Inn in Wiscasset while I was still in highschool.
Does anyone remember the clam flavored snacks that came in a
can? Noboby from away would ever eat them.I also remember
Indian Pudding made by my grandmother in Kennebunk and Flo's
hotdogs.

Hey guys,
I stumbled upon this page checking out some Maine websites.
Feeling a bit homesick I guess. I was born in Portland and
grew up in Gray. I have been in exile for two and a half
years. The first two in Hartford, CT and now at Florida
State University in Tallahasseee. I really am enjoying
myself down here, but the natural beauty cannot compare to
that of the pine tree state. Lately, I have expected to walk
out of my aparmtment and feel the crispness of Maine,
October morning. Instead I am blasted with disorienting 80
degree air mass.

I will be coming home for Christmas and cannot wait to
experience all of the idiosyncrasies of Maine. Especially an
Italian and a bag of Humpty Dumpty chips. For some reason
the rest of the US doesn't want it if it isn't franchised or
mass produced. The folks down here think I am crazy for
telling them Red Lobster is an insult to seafood. Lest I
mention Village Inn or the Clambake. The dirigo flag hangs
in my apartment and I drink Shipyard whenever I can.

However, we are not defined only by the fine products our
state produces. Maine is without the hype or the
materialistic attitude that some of these other places
possess. You ever feel like you came from another planet
just northeast of New Hampshire? There are none prouder than
Mainers and lets keep it that way. See you at Sunday River.

Something interesting happened just about an hour ago. The
doorbell rang here at our home in Milw. and there was a car
from MAINE outside. The people noticed our M flag and had to
stop in and introduce themselves. Just goes to show you that
MAINE folks are really friendly. I sure miss the bean
suppers.

Howdy y'all, ayuh, maniac living in Alabama, unique learning
opportunity, now I know how all the flatlanders felt when
they invaded our beautiful state. Born and raised for the
most part in Bridgton, great place and Maine's people are
exceptional. Especially miss this time of year, cool nights,
warm days, jumping in leaf piles and the smell of snow in
the air. Enjoy lobsters down here, buy them at Walmart of
all places. The locals eyes bug out when I get them, I guess
they think they are mutant crawfish, and want to know how I
season them. If they aren't blackened or hot enough to beat
your taste buds into submission they aren't fit to eat, I'll
learn'em, good people, but if you visit they rival Mass
drivers. I like the idea of a Mainer reunion, maybe a
clambake theme or we could spend the day splitting wood.
Hope to go home in December, can't wait! Maine the way life
is meant to be.

What a wonderful site!! I was born in Portland, and lived the
best part of my years in Falmouth. I have meant to visit
this site since visiting the store. I have the Mainiac tee
shirt--I think people kind of understand me more :) Plan on
spending more time in heaven next summer too!! Finally
dragged my 'not so always friendly' husband up there; and
then spent a week trying to get him to stop waving and
saying HI to everyone he saw!!! Here in the south they tend
to get a bit suspicious.... I feel like I have brought a
part of Maine with me as my house (the only 2 story in the
neighborhood & has 3 dormer windows {everyone refers to it
as the house with the doghouses on the roof})has always been
named (name is displayed with lighthouse on mailbox) "Cape
Falmouth", yes, I do have a lobster trap on the front porch,
and I do proudly fly my State of Maine flag in my front
yard!! I can be removed from the state physically; but
that's about it! What do I miss the most?? The smell.
Maine has such a distinct smell. Freedom, fresh, clean,
intoxicating...... Never to ever be forgotten or matched.

My trip to Maine last week was filled with eating lobster and
Amato’s Italian sandwiches and any other sea food I could
get my hands on It was great to be home, even if was just
for a short time.

Spent a couple days at the Fryeburg Fair and visited all the
old haunts. Felt strange not being able to go into the fold
farmhouse in Baldwin, where I grew up, since someone else
lives there now…

I stopped at the Maine Exiles store in Freeport last week
and stocked up on some products.

It’s strange how fast the time flew by. It was impossible to
do all the things I wanted in the short week there.

Would love to hear from other ‘Exiles’!

people, the dirt, the noise. Miss everything! The sea, the
accents, the food, the air, less people, less traffic, the
pine trees, the spruce, fog, The Whole Ball of Wax!
Guess what? After a year in exile, I'm going home! At the
end of this month, I move BACK to Maine, never to leave
again. Nothing's worth being out of that STATE!

don't leave there must be correct.
Anyway, I am living here in the sunshine state of Florida,
and it really is nice and warm. Granted, we do not get the
things that Mainiacs do, but we do have our good points too.
Shrimp all the time, different kinds of fish, fresh grown
produce year round. So, I guess that whatever part of the
country you live in, they all have their good and bad
points. So we had better not bellyache too much.

I picked up my things, and tearfully left the most beautiful
state behind, with all my memories of growing up, my friends
I have had forever in order to set off to find a job that
would support me.
Hence, I left Maine to be in Georgia. Although, I am living

Howdy fello Mainers,
I was born in Bangor and have traveled with the Air Force
for the past 17 years. We are currently stationed at Offutt
AFB Nebraska. I can tell you that we've been all over the
world and there's no place like home. From the "volcanic

topless beaches of Spain, there is no place like home. We
miss the camping in the North Maine Woods, swimming at
Sebago lake, fireworks at Casco Bay, and Clam bakes at
grandma and grandpa's; but what we've missed the most in the
past 17 years is the births, graduations, and yes, deaths in

Born in Wiscasset - product of a Maniac and an Airforce Dude.
Lived all over the world and spend every August of my life
in Maine. I would sell my sole for a clam bake or a
crabmeat roll. I am homesick.

My father was in the Air Force and we moved around alot. I was
born at Dow AFB in Bangor and lived in Orono from 59-62ish,
then moved back for last two years of High Scholl to
graduate 1975 from OHS. After doing lots of different
things I am here in Ellicott City, MD. Just west ogf
Baltimore. I am married and have a 3 and a 5 year old. We
just bought an older home with 40 acres in Lincilnville and
can not wait to move there in April.. These last few months
of exile are becoming increasingly difficult. Especially
with small children the desire to be there is ttremendous.
I am so sick of the nightly body count of Baltimore. It
won't be long. Have hope other exiles someday you can
return to a place that, although may be different than you
remember, is bound to be better than where you are.

I have been reading some of the new messages and they are great.
I am getting ready to visit Portland and Bangor for two
weeks. I wish it could be two months. I am looking for an
old friend who went to Orono High and graduated in 1991.
She then went to college in Mass and later married
someone in the airforce. Her name before she got married
was Stephanie Ford. I believe she moved out west somewhere.
If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
