My hubbie was born and raised in Fort Kent,
Maine. I've been going up there and hanging on the
coast once a year or more for about 20 years. I
love Fort Kent, I swim in an open area of the Fish
River that is extremely beautiful just a block from
his mom's house. This year, beautiful flowers and
the smell of balsam pine greeted me at the banks. I
love the coast too and those wonderous little
blueberries. Used to pick them there but the road
got changed since its logging country up there -
just couldn't get there anymore so now I snack on
raspberries that grow on the side of the road and
buy them on Route 1. I miss it and I didn't grow up
there!

I am not from Maine, but I would like to know how
a guy from there is doing? He left the area some
months ago, and everyone here is wondering how he
is...If any of you know how Marc Lamarre is doing
please let me know!

Can't believe it's been 30 years since I lived in
Maine. Grew up in East Wilton and moved away when I
was in the 8th grade. Last visit was January 06
when I broght my 3 kids up for a ski vacation and
fried clams.

heart is in Maine. I grew up in Chelsea, near
Augusta. I'm always back for holidays to visit the
family...

Born and brought up in Mexico, ME. But also lived
in Augusta, Waterville, Westbrook.
We've been stuck down in Tennessee for almost 18
years now.
Spent most of this summer up in Rumford, and did a
lot of traveling, all over. Gosh, do I miss it. We
do still own land in Maine (Stow) near Fryeburg, and
are hoping to in the near future, moving there, and
FINALLY living a great life, with People we love and
miss.

Been 'away' for quite a while now. Born in
Presque Isle, lived in Mapleton, Grad So. Portland
HS '67. USAF pulled me out of SEA & dropped me off
in No Cal in '74. ret'd in '91. I moved the family
down here this spring, chasing a paying job. Told my
wife "this is the USAF move we never made." Reading
the postings here brought up something that had been
in the back of my mind about our new home (1/2 ac.)
I was blessed to find a home that reminds me of The
County, (w/out the pollen). The recent days here, of
110+ temps WERE an exception! The grass is green, my
13yr old can throw a ball, full tilt, and not hit
the far fence! For the Hams, I have room to stuff up
an 80m dipole in the back yard.
I joke that I'm an Anglo who moved South to the L.A.
area to work for a SP lang. outfit & send $$ back
North to the family! btw: the pay is excellent! The
snow is an hour away in the winter. A town 10 min
away is one giant apple orchard complete w/ shops &
fresh apple pie. Still miss Maine.

We don't live in Maine, but have visited the
state many times, particularly the mid-coast of
Maine, namely Portland and Brunswick, but also
Pemaquid, Damariscotta, etc. I don't mean this
negatively, but Maine is like a virus (a good
one)and once it gets into your system, it doesn't
leave. And while it often lies dormant, at times it
flares up, and the only way to settle it down is to
be there, feel it, and live it. It is a magical
place, and we may be living there yet.

Just got back from Bath, Maine. My sister & I
were supposed to go up in Sept., but my uncle passed
away so we had to go up sooner. I did get my
lobster rolls, steamed clams, fried clams, clam
chowder, & Fat Boys fried onion rings. Since we had
to leave suddenly, the plane ticket was $326.00
flying into New Hampshire, & my other sister picked
us up(a 2 hr trip.) If we had flown into Portland,
it would have cost $800 plus. The weather was
great. Oh yes, I did get an Amato's italian
sandwich. We did get to stay 9 days, then back to
reality.

I'm very sorry to tell you all that I was just
visiting the Bangor Daily News website (Friday,
August 18) and read about the death of one of the
Maine Exiles. Linda Brown of Florida, a part-time
resident of Greenville, died when her pickup truck
evidently had a mechanical problem and plunged into
Moosehead Lake. Bystanders attempted to rescue her
but couldn't. At the end of the story, there was a
mention that her name appears in a guestbook on
"Exiles of Maine" website. Here is the link to the
story:

Cheryl, born and raised in Argyle, Maine (near Old
Town)
Editor's Note: Our thoughts and prayers
go out to the family and friends of Linda Brown as
they deal with this very sad, tragic accident.

Lived in Maine my whole life until 1999. The ice
storm of '98 made me decide that Maine was a nice
place to visit....so I moved to Sarasota. I now go
back to visit the folks twice a ye-ah.

I was raised in Old Town, Maine. I've been in
exile since August of '93. Went to South Carolina
looking for work... big mistake!! Moved to New
Hampshire after one year. We're now living in a
pretty nice little town in the White Mountains
foothills. Even have some pun'kinseeds living in
the river!
I still get awfully homesick, especially when times
are hard. My favorite place in the world is Lamoine
State Park. Haven't been there since '89 and miss
it terribly. I hope someday to move back to Maine.

Holy crap... I read that news article while at
work and was so giddy and sad at the same time. I
am in California, the land of transplants.... what
the fellow said at the end of that article is so
very true: When I am home in Maine its like
actually being grounded and for once in my life I am
actually HAPPY!

I was born and raised in Maine-- mostly the
Sabattus, Wales, Litchfield area. Three years ago I
moved with my ex to Ohio. Ever since I got in the
car to drive to Ohio, I wanted to be back home.
And, finally, after the longest three years of my
life, I'm moving home next month! :)

Could anyone help me?
I would like to get a copy of Wednesday, July 26,
2006 - Bangor Daily News. I've tried contacting the
paper itself to have a copy sent to me but no luck.
If anyone has an old copy sitting around that they
no longer want I would be so very grateful for it. I
would gladly pay for the postage if you let me know.
Thanks so much.

Wow--Doesn't seem possible I've been back in
Maine, and Portland, for 5 years now. What happened
to my youth? What happened to my City? Where did the
excessive crime come from? At least they cleaned up
Back Bay, but replaced it with so many business
concerns, you can't see the water. Thank God they
are replacing Jack Jr. High with another junior
high, not another high priced condo. Wow, North
School is now a place for needy citizens. That was
my school, and the wonderful teacher, Clara B.
Smart. Bless her for her wonderful love of learning,
and the ability to make learning fun. But oh how I
miss my church, Chestnut St. Methodist Church. A
membership of 300 which dwindled down to 35. That's
the trouble with progress, some good dies, and some
bad hangs around too long. OK, so what are we going
to do aboujt it? Any suggestions?
